Tranmere 1994-2009: 15 years, 15 players
Ever since that first saturday afternoon, at the tender age of 11, my life was irreversibly changed. Tranmere v Forest, 16/01/94. A 2-1 defeat, but what a day- a Rovers fan for life was born (Not just for me either; my dad too!) Many players have come ...

Barnes is a decent thinker on the game who I can see has some good ideas tactically and technically.
Yes, because its showed so far this season he’s got some great knowledge and ideas. What a joker this journalist is!! No doubt a Liverpool fan who idolised Barnesey in his heyday. Its not quite as easy to give him more time and be patient when you have to put up with ‘losing’ football every weekend. Bet this guy is writing his articles from the knowledge he picks up from Sky Sports News etc.
He’s got a cheek. Get back to Anfield son!
I kind of agree with thr article to be honest with you mate.
I do however believe that Mcateer is a joker and JB should axe him and get a proven L1 assistant manager, Maybe promote SG to #2?
JB is trying to make us play some good football and given the resourse it would work1 As the article quotes
“Tranmere sold or released all their players just before Barnes came in, and expected him to recruit replacements purely on free transfers and loan deal. They had the lowest wage budget of any team in League One… and then slashed it.
Under those circumstances, Sir Alex Ferguson would struggle to make an impact, and sacking the manager now would be a knee-jerk reaction that will any make the club’s problems worse.”
So what do we expect him or anyone for that matter to do? we need to see past the point that yes we’ve played 8 and lost 7 of those! Did everyone jump on Aldos back when lets face he got us in this league? No, because we were doing well in the cup!
We need to realise what type of club we are and build from there!
However i know I am a minority and I don’t believe he will be given the time or money to fulfill his potential!
I don’t agree at all sorry! After witnessing the shambles that has been our home form this season, regardless of how intelligent his footballing ethic maybe, the team has been very very poor from the back to the front, and if he can’t see where the problems lie then he is not cut out for management at this level. I didn’t pay for a season ticket to see a manager who picks the same jokers every week. I like the guy but for the sake of the club he needs to go asap.
Yeah I wholey agree that the team has played poorly, no denying it!
I just think if we sack Barnes would it be a case of out of the frying pan and into the fire???
You both have good valid point, on one hand he JB is not performing and the results are suggesting that he should go. the next 3 league games are key. In all football leagues I don’t know of any manger who has had 20 straight league defeats and kept his job. On the other hand he has stepped into a really difficult situation which was created by the chairman. To be seen as a success to ronnie JB has to either get us into the play offs or promoted (which i can’t see happening). JB had to build a new squad with near enough no money available.
On paper the signings he has brought in on a low budget are pretty good but they are just not performing on the pitch. Whether this is due to the tactics or the attitude of the players or a bit of both. In my view the players need to take responsability and play with some passion and grind out results, which has been lacking this season
