John Barnes has had an extremely unsuccessful start to his reign as Tranmere manager, and with most Tranmere fans seemingly of the opinion that he should be outed sooner rather than later I think it’s time to weigh up our options and seriously question what would be best for the future of our club.
Barnes came in with a total football mentality, and after feeding the press with some initially very positive theories on how players given the right role can play a silky passing game, has quickly come to realise that at this “dog eat dog” level, there is unfortunately very little football being played when you go to places like Carlisle and Yeovil.
Now Tranmere find themselves all but bottom in League One, where it not for Southampton’s points deduction. The harsh reality for JB is that this will be his true test as a manager, and a man. I wouldn’t want to see him walk away, but it’s time to drill some old fashioned determination into the players and prove to the fans and players that these kind of performances are not tollerated.
Yes we’re on a shoestring budget, but so are the majority of the other clubs in this league, it really is the time to stand up and be counted, they’re your players and you and McAteer need to earn your wages. I think anything but a win on Saturday will likely lead to strong demonstration by all quarters of Prenton Park.

I think we have to give the guy until at very least christmas!!! I strongly believe no manager even the likes of Mourinho could sort us right now.
We don’t look good, but who is to blame??? As a footballer myself no matter what your manager says to you when you cross that white line it is about you and the rest of your team.
Unfortunately now though we are in a dog fight and I feel we most likely will be all year long!
JB you still have my full backing.
Sorry John – time to clear your desk. I think we are all starting to realise why you spent 10 years looking for a job in club management. It is clear that the players do not respect you and once you have lost the dressing room and fans it is only a matter of time until you lose PJ’s support as well. Saturday could be very messy!
JB should never have been given the job. Yes he talks a good game but I’m not sure if he could motivate a moth. He got 9 games at Celtic, i think he’ll be given longer than that but if this continues for much longer even the most patient fans will be turning against him. Not only have we been losing heavily and not scoring but we have shown very few signs of improving. Why he continues to start the likes of Mahon, Shuker and McClaren I will never know. They need a rocket up their arse and all he does is pick them again and again.
Bain is not the answer, we need some grit in midfield. Welsh has been the best of a bad bunch so far. And i thought our midfield would be strong this year, how wrong could i be
I heard an interview with Peter Johnson before talking about the budget for this year. He said we had to slash it from 1.5m to 1.1m and he thought Barnes was better equipped than Moore to deal with it. Why? I love to know why he thinks this. Moore’s record was pretty good at bringing in free’s on a tight budget, e.g Kay, Chorley, Coyne, Moore
Any thoughts?
