Anybody with a jot of financial nouse will know the feasible outcome of this venture, Tranmere with no significant debt, ownership of stadium and training ground that wouldn’t require planning permission would appeal to any asset stripper, allowing for an easy return on investment and ride off into the Birkenhead sunset, leaving the people of Tranmere with no club to support, and essentially wiping out the memory of the past 126 years.

I can only speak of what I know, which almost leads me to tears. Now, 3 games into the season and once again the club is in turmoil, Les Parry’s style of football and management have always been questionable but whereas in the great escape we were incredibly difficult to breakdown, we are now as weak as p*#£. A distinct lack of creativity, pace and vision has lead to 2 home defeats and a credible point away to Huddersfield.

Parry looked to offload deadwood and bring in players that would actually improve the starting 11 during the close season, and it seemed he and his scouting team had done a good job signing younger players such as Wood, Labadie and Cathalina, and also extending the contracts of Ash Taylor and John Welsh. The foundation of the team looked good, the performances have been nothing short of diabolical. Averaging 2 shots on target in each game and only a consolation goal from talisman Ian Thomas Moore our goal difference is a frightening figure already.

Parry’s fondness of the 4-3-3 formation appears to be the root of the problem, playing players in roles they are neither comfortable or effective in, and leaving 2 inexperienced full backs horrifically exposed. The players also seem to be unaware of any kind of zonal positioning, making it easy to defend against, and difficult to form meaningful attacks.

This combined with the transfer request of last seasons top scorer and club captain Ian Thomas Moore, rumoured to being tapped up by father Ronnie has disrupted the harmony at the club, and showed his personal frustration after being substituted on Saturday.

I am equally as concerned now as I was at the same point last season. I genuinely hope Parry can turn it around, but as with last season radical changes are a must, and the sooner the better for the sake of Tranmere Rovers Football Club.

If results at Gillingham and Yeovil don’t go our way the season is over and we’re confined to League Two football against the likes of Lincoln, Burton Albion and Morecombe, gutted.

It’s time for Les and the men in white to show some grit and determination, a trait seriously lacking for the majority of the season from the majority of the players. The fans cannot be criticised, as poor performances and poor results ultimately lead to a sombre atmosphere, but the Super White Army have admirably stood by their team.

It’s down to Mr Johnson to do the right thing regardless of what happens in the remaining fixtures, employ a proven manager who can build the club from the ground up, ala Johnny King.

The SWA will be behind the team today, showing the passion that isn’t evident in all but a few players in the squad, but today I pray that every member of the playing staff are willing to put blood on their shirt for the cause, and not just be prepared to walk away with their inflated wages that they don’t deserve. Come on you white men.

After putting 5 past Walsall and more impressively Huddersfield, the Saints must have been brimming with confidence going into this match, and with Tranmere’s mediocre home form I feared the worst. But as Tranmere have a tendancy to do, we got a result against the odds. Les Parry’s men went out with the intention of putting their bodies on the line to win every ball. Although Southampton looked good, and Ricky Lambert provided an aerial threat, they quickly ran out of ideas and looked jaded after being hassled by Tranmere. The referee didn’t help matters, but we certainly deserved the victory.

I was also pleased to see LP making substitutions when they were required, unlike previously were he has left the starting 11 out for the entire 90 minutes. Bringing Bas Savage and Alan Mahon on at just the right time lifted the crowd and added a bit of much needed quality and creativity. Hopefully this will give him the confidence to make more of these decisions. Both players looked sharp considering their absense from the first team and I hope they both start against Leeds Utd tomorrow night.

Now 4 points off the drop zone, I think we deserve to avoid relegation and truly believe we will, as we obviously have the capacity to get results such as the Southampton one, whereas the teams below simply don’t. Bring on Leeds and let’s dent their chances of promotion!

Barnes came in with a total football mentality, and after feeding the press with some initially very positive theories on how players given the right role can play a silky passing game, has quickly come to realise that at this “dog eat dog” level, there is unfortunately very little football being played when you go to places like Carlisle and Yeovil.

Now Tranmere find themselves all but bottom in League One, where it not for Southampton’s points deduction. The harsh reality for JB is that this will be his true test as a manager, and a man. I wouldn’t want to see him walk away, but it’s time to drill some old fashioned determination into the players and prove to the fans and players that these kind of performances are not tollerated.

Yes we’re on a shoestring budget, but so are the majority of the other clubs in this league, it really is the time to stand up and be counted, they’re your players and you and McAteer need to earn your wages. I think anything but a win on Saturday will likely lead to strong demonstration by all quarters of Prenton Park.

Tranmere like we have seen all too often this season didn’t offer any grit or determination, and in the 3-0 defeat to Leeds and today, twice in one season, let alone in the first five league games is extremely concerning. A change in formation and tactics at half time was good to see, but ultimately did not provide any respite because as soon as Tranmere had kicked off they were 3 down.

It’s difficult to take encouraging signs, but Michael Ricketts made a difference when he came on. A deep cross seemed to flummox Luke Daniels for Charlton’s fourth and cement what was an embarrassing result. The Prenton Park faithful quickly became restless and “Barnsey out” echoed around the kop, with ironic chants of “Ronnie Moore Moore Moore”. A chorus of boos greeted the final whistle and John Barnes and Jason Mcateer have a lot of thinking ahead of next weeks tricky trip to Carlisle, changes will have to be made, simple as that.

You might say some of this aura has been lost under John Barnes, but I’ve thought the same under previous management, so I put it down to our chapel (Prenton Park!). There’s something that takes hold of you when you know you’re the underdog and its a predicament that Tranmere and the Super White Army thrive under.

Team news it looks like Thomas-Moore, Shay Logan and Gunning will return, so who knows, lets just get behind the boys and see what happens.
